Dinner with the Mase's

We had a wonderful traditional Japanese dinner with our friends Haruki and Iho the other night. Me and Darcy learned how to roll our own sushi rolls- very yummy!  We have been exposed to so many new things- but have also learned so many things are the same no matter where you are in the world- women always need good girlfriends, mothers always worry over their children- and fathers carry the weight of the family on their shoulders.  It was been a blessing to call this wonderful families friends- there have been times when the language barrier has been difficult but overall love has prevailed- we have been fortunate to have such amazing people love on us and our children- we can only hope that we have done the same!!

How nice. It is wonderful to make friends (real friends) with people of other cultures. When I was a kid, we had a similar friendship with a family from Taiwan. The mother came every Monday night to teach our family Mandarin Chinese -- not a typical American family endeavor, but our friendship has lasted over 25 years. I have a great love for the Taiwanese people, the language and their customs, and can still surprise waitresses at Chinese restaraunts with a little conversation in Mandarin. I am glad you are having these experiences with your Japanese friends.
